About WWF-UK

Toxic Fuels, our campaign with WWF-UK, aims to combat an emerging global trend to extract oil from unconventional fuels, such as tar sands and shale oil.

The mission of WWF-UK is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by:

• conserving the world's biological diversity
• ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
• reducing pollution and wasteful consumption.

In 2008, in partnership with WWF-UK, we published a report, 'Unconventional Oil: scraping the bottom of the barrel?', which reveals how the increased exploitation of these fuels could jeopardise global efforts to develop a low carbon economy.
